All that I knew about our great great Grandfather James G. Smith was that he migrated north from Georgia. He met and married Maggie Brown and started a family in Englewood NJ.
He also died too young. Cause unknown, at least I never heard anything about it. Our generation, or at least some of us, will remember Uncle Leon's stories of a connection to Springfield Mass.
More detail was never available to him I guess. No idea what was going on. Now, again thanks to ancestry, and Loren Cope, we have established the Smith tree back to our common great great grandparent from Georgia.
Caswell Cain Smith Sr. and Lucy Stapleton. Our great grandfather, James G Smith had 21 siblings! Some of them migrated northward and settled in Springfield Mass. There are or were 2 sisters that made it that far.
How our great great grandfather settled in Englewood vs. Springfield is still to be uncovered. There seems to be a Joseph Smith buried in Springfield. I know grandaddy had a brother Joseph. When he died Uncle Leon said he wanted to go to the funeral but was not allowed to go.
Is this the same Joseph Smith buried in Springfield. Well I hope to get to Springfield and meet Loren and see what information she has. Seems she is pretty organized with printouts and binders full of family information. There are a lot of generations between us but still it's all interesting.
